Vietnam- the intrepid tour- part 2 (such an imaginative title!)

Right- time to carry on! Am hoping I can catch up... In Hanoi we visited temples, an ancient house and went to see the water puppet theatre- it was very "original"! Interesting to see (though I couldn't see a huge amount as a guy with a HUGE head was sitting right in front of me so I spent alot of the performance shuffling round- potentially annoying those behind me!) At the 2nd temple Me and Anina were approached by 2 vietnamese guys who wanted to pay someone to take a picture of them with us- there was abit of confusion to begin with as we had no idea what they were going on about! Then we also got a picture of me and the cute guy- the conversation with them was definitely very entertaining- we couldn't really understand each other- the few words in Vietnamese I know include hello, goodbye , thank you and oh my god! Ended up writing some of the conversation down so we could figure out what they were saying... something that sounded like "are you huber?" ended up being them asking me if I had a husband! Watched another crappy film- the marine- SO unrealistic!

The next day we headed to Cat Ba island and the Halong bay cruise. We visited really pretty caves, had a HUGE posh lunch and sailed among the rocks- it was actually relly relaxing :O (yay for my new travel sickness pills!!)

We went treking on Cat Ba through the rainforest, which was really pretty and involved alot of climbing up dodgy rusty ladders and scrambling up rocks (not quite so good for those in our group who stupidly decided to wear flipflops!) I was the only 1 who braved climbing up the tall tower at the top of the mountain- the view was breathtaking but it was pretty scary since some of the steps were missing :S so you really had to watch where you were going! Also saw a hospital in a cave they had use in the war. This was the last day of the tour :( so when we got back to Hanoi we went out (of course!) at one stage we went to the Bia Hoi place and sat literally in the street on little stools drinking beer and eating nuts!
