Got up to have a farewell breakfast with Anina which was really sad :( of course we had the traditional chocolate pancakes!
I got to the hostel on the back of a moto which was really funny as my big bag was on the front and I had my other one and clutched onto my hat! Got chatted up by a Malaysian on a walk round the lake who wanted to know if I'd marry him!!! Asian people seem to be so forward! Went out for dinner with people I met at Happy hour! We sat in a restaurant on a balcony overlooking the street- such a good atmosphere! Then wandered round the town on a quest for icecream!
Went out with someone 4 icecream (since our quest in the early hours had failed) and indian, there was a BBQ at the hostel then went to dragonfly, which had shisha. Met Christian there along with his friend Rob- and he became my jenga buddy (!) etc. Went on a hunt for food in the early hours and found some chocolate and dried kiwi fruit! Then we went back to the hostel and sat chatting and drinking cups of tea.
Hung out with Christian and Rob- we went on an explore of the town and all 3 of us got haircuts! One of the most scary experiences EVER- the hairdresser couldn't speak any english and literally held my head down and started cutting- hair was literally falling everywhere but thankfully am happy with it :) Met up with Jacob and George as well and the 5 of us went to a Bia Hoi place then out to a bar- tried out my chess and pool skills... literally hadn't played chess since junior school but I almost beat Christian the first time... until I couldn't remember how to win(!)... then we played a chess game that seriously messed up my head at round 3 in the morning- I had lots of drunk guys surrounding me telling me what I should do... and I literally had no idea as their tactics went completely over my head! Also Christian was challenged by the jerk of a bartender to a game of pool on his messed up table for a free drink- I pocketed some of the balls for him but it wasn't good enough... The two of them then went to Halong bay for a few days- was invited with them but as already had gone...
Jacob picked me up on his moto the next morning and we headed to the Ho Chi Minh mausoleum... but the government had randomly decided to close it... however we got to see the outside (!) and visited the presidential palace, house on stilts, temple of literature, one pillar pagoda- so got all my sightseeing done that day! There was another BBQ at the hostel so I went to that and went to a Bia Hoi place again- also got chips and kebabs off the street! (and free drinks!) Was chatting to one guy alot of the evening who I have forgotten the name of :S and so nicknamed him Montreal 1- his friend Montreal 2 (have also forgotten his name!) stole my room key and swapped it for his- so I chased him round at some ridiculous time of the morning as I needed my room key to get my oreos (important things 1st!) Then had a strange messed up convo with Montreal 2 about why I didn't like his friend because apparently he liked me (which I never said I didn't) and then it turned out that he liked me as well- VERY CONFUSING EVENTS
Amy and Lydnay were some awesome people I met so chatted to them and we got a tad lost wondering round. Played some drinking games, had DISGUSTING rice porridge like street food so went on a hunt for Ritz crackers (have literally been living off french fries, ritz and oreos this week- MUST BE MORE HEALTHY!) Then went out with Gavin for abit but got back quite early as I needed to save up some energy for New years!
I got to celebrate new years AGAIN!! LOVE the fishbowls they do here- strange bright blue combination of alcohol... there was only one bartender as none of the Vietnamese would work... so went on a quest for a 2nd fish bowl and failed but another guy heard of the problem and managed to get one for me- he was a HERO! lol Jonathan dared me to take a GARLIC shot- it was pretty disgusting but got free drinks from Montreal 2 to take away the taste (he had volunteered to help out as a bartender!), as well as gum from Gavin AND I brushed my teeth- so thankfully the taste went pretty quick... I got given the most AWESOME mask by another guy and a multicoloured sombero so it was time to party! Went to an Irish bar where I met a lush guy called Cyrille (name I have never heard before!) and I hooked up with him. Saw the fireworks down by the lake though he had to lift me up so I could see all the lights round the lake as I'm a short arse and we were surrounded by Vietnamese on motorbikes... they were quite obsessed by my hat and mask! Then went dancing until we were kicked out of the bar... we ended up swapping bracelets half way through the night but forgot to change back :S it sucked as he had to go the Sapa early the next morning but hopefully might be able to meet up later on in Asia. Got back to the hostel to find Montreal 2 in my bed so a random guy helped me kick him out, then I sorted out this girl that I found passed out in the bathroom... so a very eventful evening!
Yesterday (yes I've nearly made it!) just bummed round since pretty much everything is closed for TET- watched DVDs and ate- basically just chilled out with people- had to say goodbye to Christian and Rob as well as they were heading for Sapa that night... (as well as the random guy who I bonded with over getting the other guy out of my bed!! lol) A group of us went out for pizza- SO weird having proper cheese! AND I nearly missed the free breakfast but me and Sandra convinced the guy give us some food!
Am leaving soon- its really sad as have had the most AMAZING week here- want to stay for longer! - have become nocturnal though so my body clock is gonna have to adjust again! Was getting prepared to eat on my own and stuff but I haven't had to at all- as have met some really kwl people- I now really regret the fact I have been crap at getting FB details and not taking my camera out as I was worried I might lose it- so I have no photos of anyone either- but there isn't much I can do about it now... :S
I actually really love travelling on my own...
Today I've got my group meeting for my tour through Laos... and will be heading there tomorrow
